New London Committee of Correspondence

New London, CT· month date

The Story

New London established its Committee of Correspondence as part of the intercolonial network organizing resistance to British policies. The committee communicated with counterparts in other Connecticut towns and in neighboring colonies, sharing intelligence and coordinating opposition to the Tea Act and subsequent Coercive Acts.

New London's maritime connections made its committee particularly effective at gathering intelligence about British naval movements and trade enforcement. The information flowing through the town's merchant networks became a valuable resource for the broader resistance movement.
