The Story
Congress designated Ninety Six a National Historic Site in 1976, preserving the Star Fort earthworks, the approach trenches, the village archaeological remains, and the surrounding landscape. The site is one of the best-preserved Revolutionary War earthwork fortifications in the country, and the NPS interpretation covers both the military siege and the longer story of the backcountry civil war.
