The American Revolution in Vincennes, IN
Vincennes, IN
# Vincennes, Indiana *[needs_review — scaffold only]* In February 1779, Lieutenant Colonel George Rogers Clark led a grueling 180-mile winter march across flooded Illinois and Indiana territory to surprise the British garrison at Fort Sackville. His capture of the fort — and the surrender of Henry Hamilton, the "Hair-Buyer" — secured American claims to the entire Northwest Territory. The George Rogers Clark National Historical Park now marks the site.
