Why Acton Matters
Acton, Massachusetts
[needs_review — scaffold only]
When the Concord militia hesitated at the North Bridge on April 19, 1775, it was Captain Isaac Davis of Acton who offered to lead the advance. Davis was the first officer killed in the engagement — shot down at the front of the column. His company's willingness to go first is documented in eyewitness accounts collected by Reverend William Emerson. A monument to Davis stands in Acton's South Acton Green.
