America's oldest public park (1634). British troops camped here before marching to Lexington and Concord. The Common served as a military staging ground throughout the siege of Boston.

What Happened Here

On the night of April 18, 1775, British regulars assembled here before rowing across to Cambridge and beginning their march to Concord. After the war, public celebrations marked key anniversaries.
