King's Chapel

Church

The first Anglican church in Boston (original 1686; current building 1754). After the Revolution, it became the first Unitarian church in America.

What Happened Here

British officials and Loyalists worshipped here. After independence, the congregation rejected both Episcopal hierarchy and Trinitarian doctrine, becoming Unitarian—a theological revolution matching the political one.
