Old South Meeting House

Church

Puritan meeting house (1729) where colonists gathered before the Boston Tea Party. Samuel Adams reportedly gave the signal that launched the action against the tea ships.

What Happened Here

On December 16, 1773, some 5,000 colonists packed the meeting house to debate the tea crisis. When Adams declared "This meeting can do nothing more to save the country," men disguised as Mohawks headed for the harbor.
