USS Constitution

Museum

The world's oldest commissioned warship still afloat (launched 1797). "Old Ironsides" earned her nickname in the War of 1812 but represents the naval power the Revolution made possible.

What Happened Here

The Constitution was built with funds authorized by Congress in 1794. Her construction in Boston's shipyards connected the new nation's defense to the city's maritime tradition.
