Historic Halifax State Historic Site
Government Building
A preserved 18th-century townscape on the Roanoke River, including the site where the Halifax Resolves were adopted on April 12, 1776. The site encompasses the remains of the colonial courthouse, jail, tavern, and several private homes. The Halifax Resolves — the first official government call for American independence — were passed here six weeks before the Continental Congress acted. Guided tours available.
